The key to a long-lasting pool or spa is regular maintenance, including prompt repairs when needed. Pool and spa equipment is designed to last for years with proper maintenance, but can wear out over time. Regular maintenance includes keeping the water clean, sanitary, and at the correct pH balance. Keeping the sides and floor clean to help prevent bacteria and algae growth, and keeping equipment such as pumps, heaters, and filters clean and in top operating order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your maintenance services?

Central Coast Pool and Spa maintenance services include:

  • Checking the water pH level and adding the necessary chemicals.
  • Make sure the water is sanitary.
  • Adding algaecide as needed.
  • Cleaning the filters and pumps and making sure they are working correctly.
  • Adjusting circulation as necessary.
  • Removing debris and vacuuming the pool.
  • Brushing the walls.
  • Inspecting for damage or wear to the equipment.
  • Inspecting the areas around the pool and spa to make sure there is no damage.
  • Making timely repairs when needed.

Many homeowners or property managers choose to do the maintenance themselves, but not everyone has that extra couple of hours a week. There are few things more annoying than performing Saturday morning maintenance in preparation for afternoon guests only to discover something isn’t working as it should. A trip to the hardware store becomes a major glitch in the afternoon’s plans.

Working with Central Coast Pool and Spa means your weekends are free to enjoy the pool and spa, and that the regularly scheduled maintenance is done in less time than do-it-yourself takes. Rest assured that the maintenance and most unexpected repairs are completed quickly and correctly.

How often should the water be drained?

The better maintained your pool, spa, or hot tub is, the less frequently the water needs to be drained. In general, water needs to be drained:

  • Every 12 to 18 months for swimming pools.
  • Every 3 to 6 months for spas and hot tubs.

The reasons for draining the water include:

  • Allowing a thorough inspection for signs of damage to the sides and floor.
  • Allows for thorough cleaning of the pool or spa, removing stains from minerals in the water, flushing the pipes, and thoroughly removing algae spores.
  • Over time, even though the water is maintained and quality-adjusted as needed, draining the water removes built-up minerals and dissolved solids that can result from use over time. Fresh water and a fresh pH balance is a fresh start, ensuring the quality of the water for a long time.

Draining is the first step to refreshing the water. Refilling, or the pool startup, is a very important job. There’s more to refilling the pool or spa than putting a hose down and turning on the water. Adding the appropriate solutions at the right time is very important. Chemicals and water quality substances to be added include:

The right type of chlorine, such as tables, and granular shock chlorine.

  • Stain and scale preventer.
  • pH balancer, including alkalinity balancer.
  • Algaecide or other clarifiers.
  • And more as needed.

Rely on Central Coast Pool and Spa to make sure your pool or spa is drained, inspected, and refilled with the best maintenance practices.

My pool pump stopped working. Can I replace it myself?

There are many aspects to replacing a pool pump, and not everyone has the time to learn everything there is to know about the job. If you have the original manual from when the pool was installed, you can follow the manufacturer’s instructions. In many cases, that manual is no longer available. In that case, the top considerations for a new pump include:

Selecting the right pump for the water volume, flow rate, turnover, and resistance. To do this you need to know how to calculate volume, flow, and resistance.

  • There is a formula for calculating volume which means measuring the depth of the water at its deepest and shallowest, calculating the average depth, and then calculating volume based on the shape of the pool.
  • Flow, turnover, and resistance also have their formulas. Flow rate is the number of gallons the pump moves per minute. Turnover is the minimum amount of time that is needed to circulate all of the water through the filter.
  • The equipment like filters, heaters, and automatic pool cleaners that are connected to the circulation and filtration systems create resistance to the water flow.

The pump needs to be the right size to efficiently handle the volume, flow rate, and resistance. There are also formulas for calculating the appropriate pump for a spa or hot tub.

Central Coast Pool and Spa has the experience to know what size of the pump is appropriate for your pool, spa, or hot tub and can replace the pump, and make sure it is working correctly. Central Coast Pool and Spa can save you hours, even days, of headaches. Call Central Coast Pool and Spa for pool and spa repair in Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles, and other nearby locations.
